For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you becuase I am fearfully and wonderfully made... Psalm 139Our History and Purpose: To love the least of these...
Green Pastures is a state licensed group home in a residential neighborhood for six developmentally disabled children, ages six through eighteen years. The home opened in 1977, the dream of a small group of concerned Christians. They believed that God would do great things through a home offering His care and love to children who otherwise might be in institutions. The name, Green Pastures, refers to the 23rd Psalm of the Bible: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures..."

The purposes, then as now, have been:

  1. Establishment and operation of homes where developmentally disabled children may develop physically, inExodus 4:11, John 9:1-3tellectually, and spiritually in a Christian and family oriented environment;
  2. Give advice and assistance to families with developmentally disabled children in caring for such children so that they may continue living at home; and
  3. Encouraging and educating the general public to understand God's view of developmentally disabled children and to become involved in their lives.

Currently, Green Pastures operates one home for six children in Mountain View, Ca. Green Pastures also provides a referral service where families with children with disabilities can be introduced to people willing to offer short term care in the families' homes to allow parents a break from the rigors of care for children with special needs.

Green Pastures provides spiritual and informational supports and resources to children with disabilities and their families, and seeks to educate the general public regarding the magnificent contributions such children can make to our lives.

Green Pastures attempts to live out in the community God's special love and concern for people who are often thought to be the least of us.

"Truly I say to you, as you do it to one of the least of these, my brethren, you do it to me." Matthew 20:40
