Respite: An adventure in service

Mission Statement:

Green Pastures strives to develop the resources to offer support in the form of respite care, program encouragement, recreational resources for parents with low income, information and referral, counsel, prayer, and support groups for every family in the Bay Area who requests this assistance. To accomplish this task Green Pastures will work collaboratively with other disability ministries to equip individuals and churches to care for people with disabilities from their own congregations as well as community families who contact Green Pastures requesting support.

What's happening in Family Support:

We are busy working to "grow" the number of churches in our area who are intentionally welcoming to families of children with disabilities. We are working with over 20 churches in the South Bay, sharing resources we have gathered and encouraging them as they plan programs to welcome these children. We hope that many churches will also consider offering parent-nights-out for these children and their siblings, and possibly parent and/or sibling support groups. We are encouraging individuals from these church communities to step out and sign up to be trained as respite workers in the community.

Getting involved in the Respite Program is not hard:

  • Call Green Pastures Home and ask for our Family Support Director, or send an email. (Go to contact page.)
  • Ask all your questions
  • Arrange for training (See Upcoming Events page.)
  • Get referred to a family which fits your time and experience preferences
  • Have Fun
